Shoes That Fit “Keiki Wellness Talk Story”
While in Atlanta, Marcus and Motiv8 were able to partner with Matt Ryan’s foundation Advance The Lives (ATL) and Shoes That Fit to provide 500 pairs of shoes for students at STEAM Carver High School. The excitement of seeing students receive a new pair of shoes lead us to the extension of our partnership with Shoes That Fit and provide Nike shoes for youth on the Big Island. Motiv8 partnered with ‘Ohana Care to provide shoes for kids involved with After School All Stars and Project Hawaii.
One of the biggest deficits many programs see is the accessibility to appropriate athletic shoes for students wanting to participate in physical activities. Shoes That Fit helps to fill that void and properly dress students. This was the first “Keiki Wellbeing Talk Story” event and included sponsors from Waiakea Water, Aloha Care Hawai’i, After-School All-Stars, Hawai’i Dental Service, Love’s Bakery, and Hazel Health inc. Marcus participated in a student lead Q&A focusing on mental and physical health. The kids then visited the partner booths to learn more about ways to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Motiv8 and Marcus are proud to serve with likeminded groups in providing resources for the keiki of Hawai’i. It’s okay to not be okay. The mental health crisis among youth is real and we hope that by having an open dialogue, it will educate kids on the resources available to help them. We look forward to continuing our Keiki Wellbeing Talk Story events in the future.
